February Winter Break 2027 Metro Atlanta: Presidents' Week Dates by District

Last updated: July 7, 2026. This guide uses reviewed 2026-2027 district calendar data from the Georgia School Calendar site.

Metro Atlanta February Winter Break 2027 school district dates split into three practical return patterns. Full Presidents' Week districts return Monday, February 22. Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton return Wednesday, February 17 after a February 12-16 break. Barrow, Buford, Hall, and Gainesville return February 16-18.

Quick Answer

  • Full Presidents' Week, Feb. 15-19: APS, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Marietta, Paulding, Bartow, Coweta, and the current Douglas draft-source page return Monday, February 22.
  • Full coverage week with a Monday label split: Rockdale has Independent Learning / PL Day on February 15 and Winter Intersession February 16-19; students return Monday, February 22.
  • Extended February window: Henry has an Asynchronous Learning Day on Friday, February 12, then Winter Break February 15-19; students return Monday, February 22.
  • Feb. 12-16 pattern: Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton return Wednesday, February 17.
  • Short breaks: Barrow returns Tuesday, February 16; Buford and Hall return Wednesday, February 17; Gainesville returns Thursday, February 18.
  • Main parent trap: "Presidents' Week" only fits the full Feb. 15-19 group. It does not fit Gwinnett, Forsyth, Walton, Barrow, Buford, Hall, or Gainesville.

February Winter Break 2027 School District Dates

Read the table by student return date first. District names link to maintained 2026-2027 calendar pages on this site. Douglas is included because families compare it with Metro Atlanta districts, but the current site page is draft-source data and is labeled that way in the parent read.

Feb. 15-19 The full Presidents' Week group returns Monday, February 22.
Feb. 12-16 Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton return Wednesday, February 17.
Short breaks Barrow, Buford, Hall, and Gainesville return February 16-18.

Paulding County Feb. 15-19 (Winter Break) Mon., Feb. 22 Full Presidents' Week; does not match the Gwinnett/Forsyth Feb. 12-16 pattern.
Barrow County Feb. 12-15 (February Break) Tue., Feb. 16 Earliest return group in this article.
Bartow County Feb. 15-19 (Winter Break) Mon., Feb. 22 Full-week break; matches the main Presidents' Week group.

Gainesville City Feb. 15-17 (February Break) Thu., Feb. 18 Three-day break; longer than Hall and Buford, shorter than APS/Fulton/Cobb.
Coweta County Feb. 15-19 (Mid-Winter Break) Mon., Feb. 22 Full Presidents' Week under a Mid-Winter Break label.

Which Districts Get the Full Presidents' Week Off?

The full Presidents' Week group is the simplest group to plan: students are out Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19, 2027, then return after the weekend on Monday, February 22.

That full-week group includes Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Marietta, Paulding, Bartow, Coweta, and the current Douglas draft-source page. Rockdale also creates a full family coverage week because February 15 is Independent Learning / PL Day and February 16-19 is Winter Intersession. Henry creates an even longer coverage stretch because Friday, February 12 is an Asynchronous Learning Day before the February 15-19 Winter Break.

For family scheduling, the full-week group is the cleanest one. It gives a standard Monday-Friday school closure, a weekend on both sides, and a Monday return. A trip from Friday evening, February 12 through Sunday, February 21 fits the full-week break group without a student school day in the middle.

The label is less important than the student window. Cobb calls the week School Closed. DeKalb calls it February Break. Coweta calls it Mid-Winter Break. APS, Fulton, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Marietta, Paulding, Bartow, and Douglas use Winter Break labels. The family result is the same: students are not back in school until Monday, February 22.

This is the point where the December-January "Winter Break" language can confuse families. Some calendars use Winter Break for the Christmas/New Year's window. Several Metro Atlanta calendars use Winter Break for February. Read the February break by date, not by label.

Why Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton Are a Different Pattern

Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton do not use the full Feb. 15-19 Presidents' Week pattern. They use Friday, February 12 through Tuesday, February 16, with students returning Wednesday, February 17.

That is a real split. It gives families a long weekend plus Tuesday, but it does not give the Wednesday-Friday block that the full-week group gets. A Gwinnett child is back in school on Wednesday, February 17 while a Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, APS, or Cherokee child remains out through Friday, February 19.

This matters most for families who pair Gwinnett with Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, or APS. Gwinnett and Fulton line up on Monday and Tuesday, February 15-16. Then they split. Fulton remains out February 17-19. Gwinnett returns February 17. That is a three-school-day mismatch inside the same "February break" week.

Forsyth creates the same problem for families comparing Forsyth with Fulton, Cobb, Cherokee, or APS. Walton creates the same problem for families comparing Walton with Gwinnett-area or east-metro relatives in full-week districts.

The date range also changes travel math. A Feb. 12-16 district gives a clean long-weekend trip. It does not support a full Monday-Friday Presidents' Week trip without missed school after Tuesday.

Short February Breaks and Return-Date Traps

The shortest February breaks are where families misread the calendar most often.

Barrow County uses February 12-15 and returns Tuesday, February 16. That is the earliest return date in this article. Barrow lines up with the first part of the Gwinnett/Forsyth/Walton window, then returns one day earlier than those districts.

Buford City and Hall County use February 15-16 and return Wednesday, February 17. They share the same return date as Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton, but they do not share the same break length. Gwinnett students are also out Friday, February 12. Buford and Hall are not in that same four-day instructional-weekend pattern.

Gainesville City uses February 15-17 and returns Thursday, February 18. Gainesville sits between the two-day short-break districts and the full-week districts. It does not match Gwinnett's Feb. 12-16 pattern and it does not match the full Feb. 15-19 group.

Rockdale County needs a precise read. Its Winter Intersession is February 16-19, but February 15 is listed as Independent Learning / PL Day. For a family calendar, that creates a full Monday-Friday coverage week. For official-label accuracy, the table separates the Monday event from the Tuesday-Friday intersession.

Henry County also needs precision. February 12 is an Asynchronous Learning Day, then February 15-19 is Winter Break. The parent burden is longer than the full-week group, because the regular classroom disruption starts on Friday before the Presidents' Day weekend.

Travel, Childcare, and Sibling Conflict Reads

The safest travel rule is blunt: a full Presidents' Week trip only fits the full-week districts. That means February 15-19 for APS, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Marietta, Paulding, Bartow, Coweta, and the current Douglas draft-source page, with a Monday, February 22 student return.

For Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton, the trip window is shorter. Students return Wednesday, February 17. A trip that stays out through Friday, February 19 creates missed school days in those districts.

For Barrow, the window is even shorter. Students return Tuesday, February 16. A family trying to match a Fulton or Cobb full-week trip would run into four school days after Barrow's return.

For Buford and Hall, the practical break is Monday-Tuesday, February 15-16. Those calendars work for a two-day childcare plan or a long weekend. They do not work for a full week away from school.

For Gainesville, the return is Thursday, February 18. That gives one more weekday than Buford and Hall, but still leaves Thursday-Friday mismatch against full-week districts.

The hardest sibling combinations are direct:

  • Gwinnett plus Fulton/Cobb/DeKalb/APS: shared days on February 15-16, then a three-school-day split.
  • Forsyth plus Cherokee/Fulton/Cobb: shared days on February 15-16, then a three-school-day split.
  • Barrow plus any full-week district: Barrow returns February 16 while the other child remains out through February 19.
  • Buford plus Gwinnett: same return date, different start date; Gwinnett has February 12 out and Buford does not.
  • Henry plus full-week districts: Henry adds February 12 asynchronous learning before the Monday-Friday break.

Shared-custody schedules need the first school day after break, not the label. In this article, "Winter Break ends" maps to four different school-return dates: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or the following Monday. The cleaner wording is "student returns February 17" or "student returns February 22."

For working parents, there are two different costs. The full-week districts create five weekdays of no regular school. The short-break districts create fewer weekdays but create cross-district mismatches. A shorter break is not automatically easier when siblings or custody schedules cross district lines.

PTO math. A full Presidents' Week (Feb 15-19) costs 5 PTO days for a 9-day window including both weekends. Gwinnett/Forsyth/Walton (Feb 12-16) costs 4 PTO days for a shorter travel window. Buford/Hall (Feb 15-16) cost 2 PTO days for a long weekend. The PTO load is lower for short-break districts, but the travel window shrinks accordingly. A family with one flexible-work adult covers these days with fewer formal leave days.

Which Metro Atlanta districts get the full Presidents' Week off in 2027?

APS, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Marietta, Paulding, Bartow, Coweta, and the current Douglas draft-source page get the full February 15-19 week off. Rockdale also creates a full Monday-Friday family coverage week because February 15 is Independent Learning / PL Day and February 16-19 is Winter Intersession.

When is Gwinnett County February Break 2027?

Gwinnett County students are out February 12-16, 2027 and return Wednesday, February 17. Gwinnett does not use the full February 15-19 Presidents' Week pattern.

Do Gwinnett and Fulton have the same February break?

No. Gwinnett is out February 12-16 and returns February 17. Fulton is out February 15-19 and returns February 22. They overlap on February 15-16, then split for February 17-19.

Do Cobb and DeKalb have the same February Winter Break?

Yes. Cobb and DeKalb both use February 15-19, 2027 and return Monday, February 22. Cobb labels the week School Closed. DeKalb labels it February Break.

Is APS out for the full Presidents' Week in 2027?

Yes. Atlanta Public Schools lists Winter Break February 15-19, 2027, with students returning after the weekend on Monday, February 22.

Is Presidents' Day 2027 a school holiday in Metro Atlanta?

Yes. Presidents' Day is Monday, February 15, 2027, and every district in this table has no regular classroom day on that date. The break length is the difference: full-week districts remain out through February 19, Gwinnett/Forsyth/Walton remain out through February 16, and Gainesville remains out through February 17.

Which districts return earliest after February Break 2027?

Barrow returns earliest. Barrow students are out February 12-15 and return Tuesday, February 16.

Which districts return Wednesday, February 17, 2027?

No. Hall County is out February 15-16 and returns February 17. Gainesville City is out February 15-17 and returns Thursday, February 18.

Why does Rockdale look different in the February table?

Rockdale lists February 15 as Independent Learning / PL Day and February 16-19 as Winter Intersession. For family coverage, that functions as a full February 15-19 student window, with students returning Monday, February 22.

What is the hardest February break conflict for siblings in different districts?

Gwinnett plus Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, or APS is the most common hard conflict. The districts overlap on February 15-16, then Gwinnett returns February 17 while the full-week district remains out through February 19.

Can one Presidents' Week trip work for every Metro Atlanta district?

No. A February 15-19 trip fits the full-week districts. It does not fit Gwinnett, Forsyth, Walton, Barrow, Buford, Hall, or Gainesville without missed school days after their earlier return dates.

Bottom Line

Metro Atlanta February Winter Break 2027 has three real patterns. The full Presidents' Week districts return February 22. Gwinnett, Forsyth, and Walton return February 17 after a Feb. 12-16 window. Barrow, Buford, Hall, and Gainesville use shorter breaks and return earlier than the full-week group.

The clean family calendar writes the return date. "February Break" and "Winter Break" are too loose for 2027. "Gwinnett returns February 17" and "Fulton returns February 22" are the facts that keep travel, childcare, and sibling schedules from drifting.
