The biggest planning dates sit outside the break list. September 18, November 3, March 19, October 28-29, March 3-4, December 16-18, and May 24-26 are the dates that break a normal workday without giving the family a clean vacation week.

What Makes the Gwinnett Calendar Different

Gwinnett sits outside the August 3 start-date cluster. That is the first practical difference. In many Metro Atlanta families, the workplace and neighborhood rhythm resets on Monday, August 3 because so many nearby systems start that day. GCPS students start Wednesday, August 5. A parent with one student in Fulton or Cobb and another in Gwinnett has one child starting school while the GCPS student still needs full-day coverage.

The second difference is the October pattern. Gwinnett Fall Break runs October 12-16, 2026. Fulton, Cobb, and Cherokee use the late-September break window. Forsyth uses September 28-October 2. DeKalb and Henry use October 5-9. Gwinnett lines up with Atlanta Public Schools for the October 12-16 student break week, then adds elementary and middle school early release on October 28-29. The hardest stretch is October into November. Fall Break runs October 12-16. K-8 early release hits October 28-29. Digital Learning Day #2 lands November 3.
