About Grady County Schools
Grady County Schools has two elementary structures operating beside each other. Eastside and Southside serve the ordinary K–5 route into Washington Middle. Shiver and Whigham remain PK–8 community schools, keeping students on the same campus through the entire middle-grade period. All four pathways finally converge at Cairo High.
For the district’s 4,223 K–12 students, the address determines whether sixth grade is a school transition at all. An Eastside or Southside student changes to Washington after fifth grade. A Shiver or Whigham student stays in the same school organization for three additional years and enters the countywide system only at high school.
Cairo High’s city name does not make it a separate municipal school. It is the common county high school for Cairo-area feeders and the two combined PK–8 communities. Grady uses two feeder models that meet at grade nine. A districtwide “middle school” notice must be read with that difference in mind.
