About Jeff Davis County School System
Jeff Davis County School System uses a countywide age-banded ladder for 2,883 K–12 students: Jeff Davis Primary for prekindergarten through second grade, Jeff Davis Elementary for grades three through five, Jeff Davis Middle and Jeff Davis High. The primary and elementary schools are consecutive stages, not two competing neighborhood options.
The opening of the new Jeff Davis Primary for 2026–27 changed where the youngest children are housed. Prekindergarten and primary-grade students now share the new campus, bringing together age groups that had previously been distributed differently. The building is new, but the instructional handoff after second grade remains part of the same four-school progression.
This makes older school lists easy to misread in two directions. They can understate the new primary campus by treating it as a future project, or they can suggest that the opening created an additional feeder branch. It did neither. Jeff Davis still moves one county cohort through four successive schools; the 2026 change modernized and consolidated the entry point of that route.
