About Evans County Schools
Evans County Schools uses the Claxton name for its three ordinary schools—Claxton Elementary, Claxton Middle and Claxton High—even though the governing district is countywide. Its 1,637 K–12 students follow one regular progression, and there is no separate Claxton city school system competing with an Evans County district.
Second Chance is a grades 6–12 alternative setting within the district’s secondary support structure. The Evans County Charter College and Career Academy similarly expands secondary courses and work-based opportunities without creating a second comprehensive high school for a different part of the county.
The school list can mislead in two directions. The repeated city name may suggest municipal governance that does not exist, while the additional program names may suggest multiple secondary feeders. In practice, the ordinary route is one county system centered in Claxton. Second Chance and career-academy participation answer placement and course questions after the home-school path has already been established.
