About Telfair County Schools
Telfair County Schools enrolled 1,440 K–12 students in a regular McRae-Helena sequence of Telfair County Elementary, Telfair County Middle and Telfair County High. The three schools provide the residence-based route from the early grades through graduation, with a single transition at sixth grade and another at ninth.
TAPS adds a separate placement-based setting to that map. The district is actively operating the program in 2026–27 and describes it as an alternative approach for students whose needs are better addressed outside the regular school environment. TAPS has its own program information and opening schedule, while the neighborhood assignment remains attached to the elementary, middle or high school for the student’s grade.
