Rome City Schools Calendar 2026–2027

Rome City Schools served 6,123 K–12 students inside the City of Rome, a jurisdiction surrounded by the separate Floyd County school system. A Rome mailing address can appear on homes and schools governed by either district, so city residency carries more weight than the postal city name when identifying the public-school route.

The city system entered a new grade configuration in summer 2026. The new Rome Middle School opened on July 31 and brought grades six through eight together for the first time. Sixth-graders had previously remained in the elementary network, while the former middle-school structure began with seventh grade. The change also released space at the elementary campuses as those schools shifted their upper boundary downward.

Current families now follow an elementary-to-Rome Middle-to-Rome High sequence, with sixth grade marking the first secondary transition. Directories that still describe Rome elementary schools through grade six or Rome Middle as a grades 7–8 campus preserve the pre-opening model. The new middle school resets the ordinary path for every rising sixth-grader in Rome City Schools. It is a systemwide grade reorganization with no application step.
