Pickens County Schools Calendar 2026–2027

Pickens County Schools separates the middle grades into two consecutive countywide schools. Its 3,903 K–12 students begin at Harmony, Hill City or Tate elementary schools, each of which ends after fourth grade. Every fifth- and sixth-grader then attends Jasper Middle, every seventh- and eighth-grader moves to Pickens Junior High, and the county reunites again at Pickens High.

Jasper Middle is not a conventional grades 6–8 school, and Pickens Junior High is not an optional alternative for older middle-school students. They are successive required stages. A child changes schools after fourth grade, remains at Jasper for only two years, changes again for the two junior-high grades and then advances to the comprehensive high school.

The address matters only at the elementary level. From fifth grade onward, grade level alone identifies the ordinary campus. Pickens is distinguished by placing fifth grade outside elementary school and by maintaining both a 5–6 middle school and a 7–8 junior high—two transition points where many Georgia districts would have only one.
