Chattooga County Schools Calendar 2027–2028

Chattooga County Schools has two different elementary-to-secondary routes within a system of 2,583 K–12 students. Children assigned to Leroy Massey Elementary change schools after fifth grade and attend Summerville Middle for grades six through eight. Lyerly Elementary and Menlo Elementary keep their local students on the same campus through eighth grade. All three routes finally meet at Chattooga High School.

The K–8 schools are not small variations of a countywide middle-school pattern. They preserve longer school continuity in the Lyerly and Menlo communities, while the Summerville area uses a conventional elementary-to-middle transition. A county notice aimed at “middle school” families may apply to Summerville Middle without describing where every sixth-, seventh- or eighth-grader in the district is enrolled.

There is also a jurisdictional boundary hidden inside the county map. Trion operates its own independent city school system, so an address in or near Trion does not automatically belong to Chattooga County Schools. The useful sequence is to establish district residency first, then identify whether the child follows the Summerville route or one of the two PK–8 community routes. Chattooga’s single high school conceals a much less uniform path through the earlier grades.
