Commerce City Schools Calendar 2027–2028

Commerce City Schools divides its 1,840 K–12 students into an unusually fine citywide grade ladder. Commerce Primary serves the earliest grades, Commerce Elementary serves only grades three and four, Commerce Middle begins in grade five and continues through grade eight, and Commerce High serves grades nine through twelve. Fifth grade is a middle-school year in Commerce, not an upper-elementary year.

The district also accepts some students who live outside its municipal boundary through a tuition-based process. Nonresident admission depends on available capacity and district approval, and a waiting list may be used. That route should not be confused with the attendance right held by a city resident or treated as guaranteed continuation merely because a child attended in a prior year.

Commerce’s compact four-school system is simple only when both grade span and residency are read correctly. A family using the common K–5/6–8 model will select the wrong campus for fifth grade. A family using a Commerce postal address without checking the city-school boundary may also assume an enrollment right that does not exist. The entire feeder path is shared once the student has a valid city or approved tuition placement.
