Bibb County School District Calendar 2026–2027

Bibb County School District serves 20,546 K–12 students across Macon and the surrounding county, but its school directory cannot be read as a simple list of interchangeable neighborhood campuses. The district maintains ordinary address-based elementary, middle and high-school assignments while also operating magnet schools, a virtual academy, a career-focused high school and alternative settings. Each category uses a different enrollment mechanism.

The magnet layer includes schools and programs such as Alexander II, Burdell-Hunt, Heard, Vineville, Miller and Central. Admission depends on an application, and the host school’s name does not necessarily describe a separate geographic zone. W.S. Hutchings College and Career Academy has its own application and career pathways, some of which require students to attend classes in person even when other coursework is arranged differently.

VIP Academy creates another relationship with the home-school system. The district’s current virtual program serves secondary grades through a full online curriculum. Students accepted into VIP leave their ordinary school enrollment for the academy, yet they may retain access to extracurricular activities through their zoned school. That combination—academic enrollment in one setting and activity eligibility through another—cannot be understood from a directory alone.

For Bibb families, proximity is only the starting point. The useful questions are “Which assignment is guaranteed, which placement requires an application, and which school continues to govern activities or in-person coursework?” A neighborhood high school, a magnet program, Hutchings and VIP can all appear in the same district search while representing four different ways of belonging to a school.
