About Toombs County Schools
Toombs County Schools counted 2,946 K–12 students in two different elementary configurations. In the Lyons area, children move from Lyons Primary for kindergarten through grade two to Lyons Upper Elementary for grades three through five. Toombs Central Elementary keeps kindergarten through fifth grade in one school. Both routes then enter Toombs County Middle and Toombs County High.
The split means that elementary transition timing depends on residence. A Lyons child changes buildings after second grade, while a child assigned to Toombs Central remains in the same elementary school through fifth. By sixth grade, the two groups share one countywide secondary sequence.
Vidalia City Schools operates independently within the same county and maintains its own primary, elementary, middle and high schools. A Vidalia-area mailing address can point toward either the city system or Toombs County Schools, depending on the jurisdiction. After that boundary is established, the county family still needs to distinguish the paired Lyons route from the full K–5 Toombs Central route.
