About Thomaston-Upson County Schools
Thomaston-Upson County Schools enrolled 3,858 K–12 students in a unified city-county system. The hyphenated name records an actual consolidation: voters approved the merger of the Thomaston city and Upson County systems in 1990, and the combined district began operating for the 1992–93 school year.
That history is still visible in the school names. Upson-Lee Primary serves prekindergarten through grade two, Upson-Lee Elementary covers grades three through five, Upson-Lee Middle receives grades six through eight and Upson-Lee High serves grades nine through twelve. The repeated Upson-Lee identity represents the common system created by the merger.
A Thomaston address leads into the same countywide ladder used by the surrounding Upson community. The 1992 merger left one public district for city and county residents. Families advance through the four Upson-Lee age bands, and the district name itself explains why city and county references appear together on every level.
