Sumter County Schools Calendar 2025–2026

Sumter County Schools enrolled 3,372 K–12 students in a highly centralized age ladder around Americus. Sumter County Primary serves the opening grades, Sumter County Elementary follows with grades two and three, Sumter County Intermediate gathers grades four through six, Sumter County Middle covers grades seven and eight, and Sumter County High begins with ninth grade. The district uses five countywide stages, with grade level serving as the organizing rule.

Americus also contains Furlow Charter School, a K–12 public school authorized through Georgia’s State Charter Schools Commission. Furlow has separate governance and enrollment from Sumter County Schools, even though both appear in searches for public education in the same city. Furlow students follow the charter school’s own K–12 enrollment path.

The key distinction in Sumter is institutional. One route is the county district’s five-stage progression, with grade level deciding each campus. The other is a state-charter option operating as its own local education agency. Any calendar, enrollment form or school count must be matched to the correct system even though both use Americus addresses.
