Rockdale County Public Schools Calendar 2027–2028

Rockdale County Public Schools enrolled 14,916 K–12 students in a compact metro-Atlanta county whose ordinary attendance map culminates in Heritage, Rockdale County and Salem high schools. A residential address establishes the neighborhood elementary and middle route first. That baseline remains important even in a district with an unusually dense layer of specialty programs.

Rockdale uses more than one route into those options. The districtwide Specialty and Choice process covers many middle- and high-school programs and can place a student outside the home attendance zone; some programs add auditions or other eligibility requirements. Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, Rockdale Career Academy, Rockdale Open Campus and Rockdale Virtual Campus sit outside the general Choice application and use direct enrollment procedures. The four names cover distinct forms of participation, from selective academics and career coursework to alternative or virtual enrollment.

A family comparing Rockdale schools has two maps to read. The first is the assigned neighborhood sequence ending at one of the three comprehensive high schools. The second is the admissions map for the particular specialty school or program under consideration. A successful application may change the daily campus while the student’s residential zone still explains the default placement and the school to which the student would otherwise return.
