Gwinnett County Public Schools Calendar 2027–2028

Gwinnett County Public Schools enrolled 180,763 K–12 students and organizes the ordinary network through 20 high-school clusters. Each cluster contains a high school and its feeder middle and elementary schools, although some younger campuses split their students among later destinations. The cluster map, not the thematic language in a school name, establishes the regular address-based route.

Seckinger High illustrates that point. Its artificial-intelligence theme is distinctive, but Seckinger is also a real residential cluster with Jones Middle and assigned elementary feeders. Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology works differently: eligible eighth-graders apply for a countywide freshman lottery, and selected students use transportation connections through their home high school and neighborhood middle school. GSMST has no ordinary neighborhood zone.

Gwinnett Online Campus, GIVE centers, technology schools and arts or charter options add still other enrollment mechanisms. They cannot be grouped together simply because they sit outside a familiar comprehensive high-school name. One may be a full virtual school, another an intervention placement, another a half-day career destination and another an application-based school.

At Gwinnett’s scale, classification is essential. A residence belongs to one of 20 clusters even when the student later attends a countywide option. Seckinger proves that a themed school can still be zoned; GSMST proves that a full high school can be lottery-based. The operational question is always how the student enters the school, not how specialized its title sounds.
