Greene County School System Calendar 2027–2028

Greene County School System contains a traditional county feeder path and a separate K–12 public charter route. The ordinary district sequence is Greene County Elementary through grade four, Anita White Carson Middle for grades five through eight, and Greene County High. The traditional route moves students into middle school at grade five.

Lake Oconee Academy operates differently. It serves Greene County residents through charter enrollment and a lottery process governed separately from the district’s neighborhood assignments. State records divide the academy into K–8 and high-school entities, but together they form one continuous charter pathway through grade twelve, not two unrelated county zones.

Among the district’s 2,433 K–12 students, the most important division follows institutional governance and enrollment method. A child either follows the guaranteed traditional assignment or holds a charter seat at Lake Oconee Academy. The two routes have different entry rules and different grade transitions. Counting the academy as merely another elementary and another high school would conceal the fact that it is a complete alternative K–12 system inside the county district.
