Cook County Schools Calendar 2026–2027

Cook County Schools uses one countywide sequence for its 2,808 K–12 students: Cook Primary for the earliest grades, Cook Elementary for grades three through five, Cook Middle for grades six through eight and Cook High for grades nine through twelve. Primary and Elementary are consecutive age bands, not competing neighborhood schools.

Cook Performance Learning Center adds a secondary name that serves a different purpose. It is a nontraditional setting for students who need a more flexible route toward credits and graduation, not a second comprehensive high school assigned by residential boundary. A student’s placement there follows educational need and program procedures, with no separate geographic attendance area attached to the center.

The district is highly centralized without being a single combined campus. Every ordinary child moves through the same four-stage ladder, while the Performance Learning Center provides an alternate secondary arrangement alongside it. Cook’s school count becomes misleading only when the specialized center is treated as another geographic feeder or when Primary and Elementary are read as two K–5 choices.
