About Chattahoochee County Schools

Chattahoochee County Schools operates only three regular campuses for 907 K–12 students: Chattahoochee County Education Center for the elementary grades, Chattahoochee County Middle and Chattahoochee County High. For families living in Cusseta and the county’s ordinary civilian communities, the progression is a direct countywide sequence.

Fort Moore creates a separate educational jurisdiction inside the same local area. The Department of Defense Education Activity operates on-post schools for eligible military dependents from prekindergarten through grade eight. Those campuses are federal DoDEA schools, not additional Chattahoochee County schools and not part of the district’s elementary or middle-school count.

High school is where the two systems connect. Fort Moore does not operate a DoDEA high school, so on-post students attend local public high schools under the area’s assignment arrangements, including Chattahoochee County High or Spencer High in Muscogee County depending on residence. A military family can move from a federal PK–8 system into a county high school without ever attending Chattahoochee County Middle.

This is not a conventional feeder exception. It is a change of governing school system at grade nine. The first question is whether the child is eligible for and assigned to an on-post DoDEA school; the second is which local district receives the student for high school. Counting all nearby schools under one district would erase the most important fact about education around Fort Moore.
