Burke County School District Calendar 2027–2028

Burke County School District uses two different elementary arrangements for its 3,621 K–12 students. In the Waynesboro area, children move from Waynesboro Primary to Blakeney Elementary before entering Burke County Middle. Farther south, S.G.A. Elementary in Sardis keeps the full elementary span together on one campus. Both routes ultimately converge at the same county middle and high schools.

The difference changes when a child makes the first major school transition. A Waynesboro-zone student changes buildings after the primary grades and again for middle school. An S.G.A. student remains at one elementary school through grade five. The label “elementary” covers an upper-elementary campus in one route and a full elementary campus in the other.

Burke’s secondary structure is much simpler than its elementary directory suggests. At the secondary level, every ordinary route leads to Burke County Middle and Burke County High. The high-school destination is shared across the county; the key assignment question concerns the elementary model that applies before students come together. That is also why a districtwide grade-level notice may involve different campus names for younger students but one shared campus for older students.
