Wilkes County Schools Calendar 2026–2027

Wilkes County Schools recorded 1,190 K–12 students in a single age-banded sequence shared across the county. Washington-Wilkes Primary extends through third grade, Washington-Wilkes Elementary serves grades four and five, Washington-Wilkes Middle covers grades six through eight and Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High completes the sequence.

The primary school’s K–3 span moves the first transition later than in many Georgia systems that divide after first or second grade. Fourth grade begins a compact two-year upper-elementary stage, so students spend four years at Primary, two at Elementary and three at Middle before high school. Every ordinary resident route follows the same timing.

“Washington-Wilkes” joins the county seat’s name with the county identity. The name expresses one unified county system covering the county seat and surrounding area. The repeated name across all four schools describes one unified county ladder, and grade level—especially the unusual K–3 then 4–5 split—provides the key to placement.
