About Fayette County Public Schools
Fayette County Public Schools enrolled 19,437 K–12 students across five comprehensive high-school communities: Fayette County, McIntosh, Sandy Creek, Starr’s Mill and Whitewater. Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Tyrone and the county’s unincorporated neighborhoods do not operate separate municipal school systems; their schools belong to the county network and are connected through current attendance boundaries.
The place names can still be deceptive. A Peachtree City address does not by itself guarantee McIntosh or Starr’s Mill, and a Fayetteville mailing address can fall into more than one cluster. Current boundary records determine the elementary and middle assignments; municipality names and proximity to a high school can point elsewhere.
Fayette also permits in-district transfer requests under Georgia’s school-choice rules when seats are available. That process begins only after the student’s resident school has been identified, and an approved transfer does not convert the receiving school into a new home zone. Capacity and family-provided transportation can matter. The stable distinction is between the five address-based communities and a limited transfer route layered over them.
