Dawson County Schools Calendar 2026–2027

Dawson County Schools extends the junior-high concept across two grades. After one of four elementary schools, the district’s 4,155 K–12 students attend Dawson County Middle for grades six and seven, Dawson County Junior High for grades eight and nine, and Dawson County High for grades ten through twelve.

This arrangement places ninth grade outside the building named High School. It also makes grade eight the beginning of a two-year junior-high experience that continues through grade nine. The district describes the alignment as a coordinated grades 6–12 sequence, but each campus has a distinct role within it.

Dawson’s structure is not a choice system and does not divide the county into multiple secondary clusters. Every ordinary route converges after elementary school and follows the same 6–7, 8–9 and 10–12 progression. The main risk is simply applying familiar grade labels to the wrong buildings. A family planning the ninth-grade year needs the junior-high schedule and campus, not the high-school information that the student will use beginning in tenth grade.
