Clarke County School District Calendar 2026–2027

Clarke County School District serves Athens and the rest of Clarke County through two ordinary high-school zones, Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central. Its 11,563 K–12 students attend neighborhood elementary and middle schools that feed one of those comprehensive high schools. The unified Athens-Clarke government does not create a separate Athens city school system; the public district is countywide.

Classic City High School works outside that two-zone map. It is a nontraditional secondary setting that combines face-to-face instruction, online work and other individualized approaches for students whose needs are not well matched to the conventional schedule. Athens Community Career Academy and the district’s career pathways add further course destinations, but neither should be counted as a third neighborhood high-school cluster.

Clarke’s directory is best read in layers. Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central answer the residential assignment question. Classic City answers a placement and instructional-model question. Career-academy participation answers where a student may complete particular courses. Treating every secondary name as an equivalent high school would falsely expand a compact two-zone system into several geographic divisions.
