About Montgomery County Schools
Montgomery County Schools has one three-stage route for 855 K–12 students, but its campuses are divided between two towns. Montgomery County Elementary is in Ailey. Montgomery County Middle and Montgomery County High share the Faye D. Brewer Street secondary site in Mount Vernon.
The middle and high schools are physically paired without being one combined institution. They publish separate contacts and maintain distinct grade spans, so a student formally changes schools after eighth grade even though the next campus is at the same secondary address. The move after fifth grade is different: it takes the child from the elementary center in Ailey into the Mount Vernon complex.
Montgomery’s structure is neither a one-town three-school ladder nor a single PK–12 campus. The county uses Ailey for the elementary years and Mount Vernon for both later school organizations. Once residency is established, no feeder choice remains; the important distinction is which transitions involve a new location and which occur between two schools on the same secondary site.
