About Hancock County School District
Hancock County School District enrolled 616 K–12 students and maintains three regular school identities: Lewis Elementary, Hancock Central Middle and Hancock Central High. The middle and high schools share the “Hancock Central” name and a closely connected countywide role, but they remain separate schools with different grade spans.
Early Head Start, prekindergarten and other young-child services may appear in district materials alongside those campuses. They should not be counted as a fourth ordinary K–12 feeder or used to imply that the elementary school begins with every early-childhood program. Lewis is the regular elementary destination; the early-learning services have their own eligibility and age rules.
Hancock’s small scale produces one countywide path. Students change from Lewis to the middle school and then to the high school without choosing among community feeders. Its distinguishing issue is accurate school classification: three successive K–12 schools, supplemented by early-childhood programs, not one combined central school and not four ordinary attendance zones.
